Research shows that being curious can increase your ability to learn and retain information, so if you’re curious about what goes on at Skolon, we’ve got you covered with an update on our October activities to keep your interest piqued!

During October, Team Skolon have come together to partake in various activities in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Pink Ribbon Day, such as inspiring awareness talk, a community bake sale, and a “Wear It Pink” day.

On Tuesday 15th October, CoppaFeel! lead a virtual session, sharing personal stories and educating staff on breast cancer signs, symptoms, and self-checks.

Later in the week, a bake sale took place, with sweet treats in our Malmö and Karlshamn offices up for sale – with all proceeds going to the Pink Ribbon campaign. From the bake sale, all money raised will go to the Breast Cancer Foundation in Sweden.

The week of charitable festivities did not end there, as on Friday 18th, we donned our finest pink attire for Wear It Pink Day to show their solidarity, as seen below!

These events highlight our company’s ongoing commitment to staff wellness and important health causes. We caught up with Skolon’s HR generalist, Anne-Lie Miiros to find out more about the importance of staff wellness, in addition to supporting and raising awareness of health causes.

What initiatives are being introduced this October to promote staff wellness alongside Breast Cancer Awareness Month?

During October and November, we have several staff wellness initiatives ongoing alongside Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

We’re excited to announce our upcoming Wellness Day, which is a free day out of the office to encourage employees to take care of themselves – whether through fun activities with colleagues or solo, it’s entirely up to them – there’s no right or wrong!

We’re also hosting a Skill Boosting Day, designed to promote lifelong learning and development. It’s an opportunity to step away from daily tasks, work with colleagues you don’t usually interact with, and try something new together.

In addition, we’re holding a “Bring Your Kids to Skolon” afternoon in October, where employees can bring their children for a fun day of different activities, hopefully leading to a positive vibe while connecting with colleagues in a different way than usual.

I believe these activities help strengthen team cohesion by bringing people together for new experiences. Whether work-related or not, connecting over shared activities and learning from each other is essential for morale and team spirit.

What long-term benefits do you see in fostering a culture of wellness and awareness within the workplace?

Fostering a culture of wellness and awareness brings lasting benefits for everyone at Skolon.

By encouraging a proactive approach to health, both physical and mental, we not only help our employees and colleagues feel their best but also strengthen team spirit. Learning new skills and trying different activities together boosts motivation and resilience, while creating a sense of belonging. In the long run, it’s all about building a positive environment where we look out for each other and thrive both personally and professionally.

How will the company support staff beyond this month in maintaining both physical and mental well-being?

The company supports staff well-being year-round with various initiatives. These include health benefits like contribution to gym memberships and massages, organised physical activities, corporate health services for work-related support, and computer glasses for those in need. Additionally, employees can enjoy a discount on bicycles to encourage cycling to work for both health and sustainability.

What other health causes or wellness initiatives can staff look forward to in the coming months?

In addition to the aforementioned Wellness Day, November will also bring Movember initiatives, raising awareness for men’s mental and physical health through various activities. Additionally, Skolon will continue supporting personal development and learning opportunities throughout the year, with Skolon Learnings, which are sessions that cover a wide array of topic areas from working smarter, sustainability to being efficient with Google Workspaces, workouts, well-being, and meditation.

As October draws to a close, Team Skolon has shown how curiosity and community can go hand-in-hand, whether it’s baking for a cause, wearing pink with pride, or learning something new.
