It’s no secret that tech has become a huge part of education; From classroom collaboration and personalised learning to assessment and accessibility, digital tools are helping schools create richer learning experiences than ever before.

Yet, technology alone doesn’t create opportunity.

True digital learning isn’t measured by the number of devices in a classroom or the size of a school’s software portfolio. It’s measured by whether every learner can access the right resources at the right time, without the various physical and virtual barriers standing in their way.

Digital learning should be accessible to everyone

Today’s schools use an incredible range of digital resources. But for many pupils, accessing those resources can still be unnecessarily difficult. Some still think: “ah, yes, well, we have devices” means they’re accessible but they’re not – it goes way beyond the physicality of a device to access.

If working in the education sector, and attending school myself, taught me anything, it’s that every single learner is different.

Some pupils benefit from visual learning, others from audio support or interactive activities. Some require assistive technologies to fully participate in lessons, while others simply need a straightforward way to access the resources their teacher has prepared.

A truly inclusive digital environment allows schools to provide these opportunities consistently, ensuring technology supports every learner rather than becoming another barrier to overcome.

Digital inclusion isn’t simply about providing access to devices. It’s about ensuring every learner has equal access to the opportunities those devices provide.
