How Skolon supports schools to meet Ofsted’s updated expectations

The conversation around inclusion in education is far from new, but it is constantly evolving – and rightly so.
The UK’s education standards watchdog, Ofsted have unveiled new proposals for school inspections, coming into action very soon – from September 2025.
Their updates place a renewed focus on how well schools are supporting disadvantaged and vulnerable pupils, with inspectors looking more closely at how schools both identify and meet the needs of pupils facing disadvantage with factors such as: SEND, attendance and safeguarding becoming more important to them.
At Skolon, our mission is to provide a positive digital learning experience for all, which is why we believe inclusion is not an add-on, or a ‘nice to have’, inclusion is the foundation of effective teaching and learning. As such, our platform is designed to support everyone in the classroom by providing schools with the tools that they need to to personalise learning, improve access and ensure no pupils get left behind.

What the new Ofsted guidance means for schools
Among changes are the long awaited scrapping of the controversial single word judgements, Ofsted’s new framework will now require schools to show how they are adapting their approaches for children who may not thrive in traditional learning environments. This includes demonstrating how they:
- Identify individual learning needs early
- Use digital tools to provide tailored support
- Engage students who face barriers to learning such as poor attendance or SEND
- Offer equitable access to learning for all pupils.
Previous school systems and models focused on working for the majority of pupils, yet this swift sidestep means every school must ensure their provision supports every child – all by the new school year.
How Skolon supports inclusive education
Personalised learning through a single platform
Each pupil has access to their own digital learning environment, tailored to their needs. Whether a student uses a screen reader, requires simplified interfaces, or needs particular tools to support learning gaps, Skolon ensures resources are accessible and personalised. They can also customise their view, moving their apps around to place them in folders for organisation or in order of how they like to use them.
Skolon also features an app store with global suppliers, enabling teachers to easily discover and test new digital resources. This helps educators find tools that better support their pupils’ individual learning needs, making it easier to adapt and refine their approach for a more inclusive classroom experience.
Easy access for all learners
Skolon offers a QR code login system that means even the youngest or most vulnerable students can log in securely and independently, removing barriers to engagement from day one. All they need to do is scan their QR pass using the camera on their device and they can access all of their learning materials.

Support for SEND and disadvantaged learners
Skolon integrates with a wide range of specialist tools that help schools cater for different learning profiles, including ReadSpeaker and AudioNote. From communication aids to literacy support, we help schools curate the right digital toolkit for every learner in one, very handy platform – making it easier for Ofsted and other inspectors to audit provision and understand how needs are being met.
Clear visibility for staff and inspectors
By centralising all digital tools and usage data in one place, Skolon gives teachers and leaders a clearer understanding of how digital resources are being used—and whether they’re reaching the right pupils. It can also help teachers to understand whether there are children with undiagnosed needs based on the tools they rely on, spotting patterns that may indicate where additional support or intervention is needed.
Inclusion goes beyond a checklist
The new Ofsted guidance signals a deeper commitment to fairness in education.
Skolon stands ready to support schools on that journey by simplifying digital access, improving visibility, and helping schools provide meaningful, personalised learning for every pupil.
Because when inclusion is built into the foundation of your digital strategy, it benefits not just the few—but every learner.
This is Skolon – we gather the best digital educational tools and make them work in the classroom.
Skolon is an independent platform for digital educational tools and learning resources, created for both teachers and students. With Skolon, accessing and using your digital educational tools is easy – security increases, administration decreases, and there’s more time for learning.
The digital educational tools come from both small and large providers, all of whom have one thing in common – they create digital educational tools that are beneficial for the school environment.
