Case study: TrilbyTV & Skolon

Empowering creativity and simplifying digital signage for the modern classroom
TrilbyTV is the UK’s leading digital signage platform, designed from the ground up specifically for the education sector.
Their platform was born out of a simple observation by founders and former classroom technology trainers, Neil Emery and Ben Stanley. While visiting hundreds of schools, they noticed digital signage screens in receptions and hallways were often switched off, stuck on outdated content, or displaying irrelevant information that had zero impact on the school community.
At its core, TrilbyTV is about more than just displaying notices; it is about building school culture. The platform’s philosophy is centred on equity of access, ensuring that it isn’t just the “top 5%” of student work that gets seen. Whether it’s a Year 13 student’s media project or a Key Stage 1 class trip photo gallery, TrilbyTV ensures that screens remain fresh, relevant, and engaging.

“When schools are adopting any new technology, they want to do it in a seamless way. If it’s not something they can pick up and do straight away, there’s friction. We are always looking for ways to remove that element.” — Ben Stanley, Director at TrilbyTV
The solution: an ecosystem of “friends”
TrilbyTV chose to partner with Skolon to embed their signage solution within a proven, user-centric ecosystem. For TrilbyTV, joining Skolon wasn’t just about a technical integration; it was about joining a “playground” of best-in-class tools like Book Creator, Kahoot, and WeVideo.
Key benefits of the partnership include:
Seamless onboarding: The integration process was straightforward.. Development teams on both sides focused on a “minimal data” approach to ensure security and speed.
SSO & centralised access: By appearing “front and centre” on the Skolon dashboard, TrilbyTV is immediately accessible to teachers the moment they log in for their day.
Market expansion: While TrilbyTV is a UK-focused leader, Skolon provides a bridge to the Nordic markets and larger Multi-Academy Trusts (MATs) that prioritise centralised platform management.

Data integrity and user experience
Security is a non-negotiable in education. TrilbyTV highlighted that Skolon’s alignment with GDPR standards and minimal data movement made the partnership an easy “yes.”
Beyond the back-end security, the human element remained the priority. Both the Skolon and TrilbyTV development teams shared a philosophy that the most complex technical work should result in the simplest user experience.
Impact: turning screens into galleries
The partnership ensures that digital signage isn’t just a static display in a hallway, but a living part of the learning journey. By making it easier to log in and upload content, TrilbyTV and Skolon allow schools to:
Celebrate every voice: Moving beyond showing only the “best” work to celebrating the progress of every student.
Build community: Sharing everything from “Action for Happiness” clips to photos of the staff football match.
Save teachers time: Removing the need for “staple gun” displays and manual poster updates in favour of fresh, digital content.
“There’s a teacher in a classroom that’s going to press a button… it needs to be about them first rather than the API and the connections. The Skolon team was perfectly aligned with that way of thinking.” — Neil Emery, Director at TrilbyTV

Looking ahead
As TrilbyTV and Skolon continue to grow together, the focus remains on creativity and equity. By removing the technical barriers to entry, they are ensuring that more students have the “proudest day of their school life” when they see their own work showcased on the big screen.
“Working with Skolon makes us more accessible and adds validity to the whole process. We’re all in the playground together, and it’s a nice thing to be able to play games with friends.”
