Security in the platform

How we work with GDPR, accessibility and privacy

With guaranteed uptime according to SLAs and a range of functions for enhanced security and transparency, we make secure, accessible digital learning available to everyone.

Guaranteed access via SLAs

Always and everywhere

Our top priority is always our users and making digital learning accessible to everyone. We are therefore proud that during the past five years we have surpassed our SLAs, with uptime of more than 99.98%. This means that teachers and students have access to tools wherever they are and at any time, without having to remember different passwords, deal with IP locks or use specific devices.

Documented uptime of more than 99.98 %

Full transparency

An automated overview

Schools get a full overview of operational status and updates at, with built-in automatic notes in the event of any incidents. This gives a full overview of a key part of the school’s technical infrastructure for IT devices, and a summary of operations and availability that many schools currently lack.

Hundreds of ready-made integrations

A reliable platform in a complex ecosystem

Skolon has ready-made integrations with more than a hundred different providers and 24/7 monitoring, every day of the year. We continuously develop these integrations together with each provider in line with the latest technology and applicable standards. This gives schools a secure, stable integration platform that is always improving within a complex ecosystem, both now and in the future.

100% European hosting

Without risk of transferring data to third countries

Since 2021, Skolon has a 100% European hosting and infrastructure solution where we use European providers of cloud services and other infrastructure only. Therefore, no data is transferred, either directly or indirectly, to third countries outside the EU. This is to ensure that we live up to the data protection requirements according to the GDPR (Schrems II).

Of course, we make the same high demands on availability and operational reliability as always. Our European suppliers live up to the highest industry standards.

A work in constant progress

A focus on information security and GDPR

Skolon’s infrastructure and technology are based on modern frameworks, and our entire development process focuses sharply on thinking about quality and information security such as data privacy and GDPR – a work in constant progress. Clear quality and information security processes are an essential part of ensuring a safe, secure user experience.

To ensure compliance with GDPR

Basic personal data processing functions

Skolon includes basic functionality for the systematic working methods required to ensure compliance with GDPR.

Secure syncing and transfer of personal data

Skolon’s APIs ensure the secure, controlled transfer of personal data, from basic systems to individual school tools.

Restricted data sharing

Skolon’s system automatically restricts the sharing of personal data to only those services that the individual user actually uses, even if they have been made available to the whole school.

Continuous testing

All integrations are tested and quality checked on an ongoing basis, fully automatically.

Data sharing visualisation, overview and management

Each user can easily see and administer their own user data. Administrators can easily review and administer all personal data contained in the platform.

Skolon’s data processing agreement for schools

Skolon has drawn up a GDPR-compliant data processing agreement (DPA) to help schools that use Skolon to comply with the regulation. We also sign DPAs based on the standard templates produced by bodies such as the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions for schools that want to use these. The agreement ensures Skolon’s commitment to users and schools to comply with GDPR requirements. If you have any questions about this agreement, please get in touch with your Skolon contact.

Data protection

Skolon’s security work

Protecting our users’ security and privacy is one of our most important tasks. We therefore work continuously and methodically with data protection and security.

The Skolon platform is built according to the latest industry standards when it comes to storing, processing and communicating sensitive information, such as personal data and passwords. For example, we use SSL/TLS and one-way hash algorithms.

The Skolon platform and its various APIs are continuously security tested and evaluated.

Protection is implemented with systematic, organisational and technical measures to ensure privacy, confidentiality and accessibility.

Data is stored in the EU, and we only use well-established subcontractors who comply with current standards within the field. All data is backed up at several different locations.

We have policies and security procedures for aspects such as:

• Information security
• Incident management
• Risk analysis
• Software updates
• Secure device configuration and management
• Software development
• Learning and training

Skolon’s employees are bound by non-disclosure agreements and only process the data required by their work.

Policies and documents

Personal data processing in connection with using the Skolon platform is governed by a data processing agreement between the customer (the school) and Skolon. There are also a number of additional policies, as follows:
